Kay's 400 Free at ESG-1983

Kay's 400 Free at ESG-1983

This is the awards presentation for the women's 400 Free (must have been 35-39). I believe this is the first year ESGs featured Masters swimming. I am embarrassed to say that I placed third!!!!

First place was Ann Svenson of Adirondack; second place was Jane Murphy-Sherman (a breaststroker, of all things...) I think I got better at this race with age.

2006 LCM Zones Trip

Scotty and I left Friday night from Rochester for Lancaster Pennsylvania, arrived at 10pm, visited with family and went to sleep at 11pm.  We got up at 7am and had first breakfast headed out to the meet.  By 8:30am we were shopping for second breakfast at Perkins because I promised Scott if we saw one we would stop and get Eggs Benedict.

We arrived at the hotel at 11:30am and met my mom there.  She came from Massachusetts to watch the meet.  I did a quick shave and we were leaving for the meet at 12:15pm.  The directions were a little off, there was construction and it was a good think my mother got there a day early to scope things out.  Now that we have been there once though this will not be a problem.  The destination address brings you into university drive and really you need to keep going to the next intersection and go two lights to enter the campus from the other side.

Worlds Day 9 - Alcatraz

Alcatraz Island as seen from the Aquatic Park beachToday was my final day out at the world championships, and it was time for another open water swim. This one was a non-competitive swim that was offered as one of the social events associated with the meet. It was also one of those experiences that swimmers want to check off their list of accomplishments in their swimming career - an Escape from Alcatraz. The swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco is only 1.2 miles as the crow flies, but the water is cold and often rough, with very strong currents possible.
