2007 Fingerlakes Triathlon - Team Results

Sunday October 21 was the 2007 Fingerlakes Triathlon in Canandaigua. This was an Olympic distance competition: .9 mi swim, 24 mi bike and 6.2 mi run with 259 total finishers (male and female combined). Congratulations to our teammates Erika, Dana and Ken who participated; their results are below; note Erika was the overall female winner!

Erika Foster 2:18:31 Overall female winner, 23rd combined male/female swim: 21:35 bike:1:08:49 run: 46:21

Dana Woody 2:22:50 1st womens 35-39, 35th combined male/female swim: 21:48 bike: 1:13:42 run: 43:38

Ken Koppenhaver 2:25:22 7th mens 35-39, 48th combined male/female swim: 23:40 bike: 1:10:47 run: 47:14

2007 Rochester Marathon - Team Results

There were over 2000 competitors in this year's Rochester Marathon. The full marathon saw 518 finishers including: (place in age group)

2 Mi National Championship Cable Swim at Mirror Lake, Lake Placid: Team Results

Six teammates swim the 2 mi cable swim in Mirror Lake, Lake Placid on August 18. Congratulations to all swimmers.! Special congratulations to Bruce who set a new record for his age group. Team Results 2007 LCM National Championships

The Long Course National Championships are being held in Woodlands, Texas from Aug 10-13 with almost 1000 competitors. Our lone teammate Jim Matysek is competing each of 4 Days.

Day 1 began with the 400 m Free, one of Jim's signature events. His finish time was 4:54.97, less than 0.6 seconds off his seed time; he placed 12th. His second event, in contrast, was the 50 m Breast, an event he swims faster than my freestyle. Jim's time was :34.78, less than 0.4 seconds off his seed time and placing 3rd. Hopefully this doesn't mean he is becoming a sprinter!

Team Results 2007 Empire State Games in Westchester County

THis year's Empire State Games Masters swimming competition was held July 27-29 in Westchester County at Pace University in a 25 yd format. Because of the distance to the Games and the fact that the swim was not LCM or SCM format, only two RAMS swimmers competed.

Barry Symonds is a relatively new member of the team, joining us in December 2006. Although he was an open water swim virgin at the Canandaigua Lake swim earlier this month, Barry is a seasoned pool competitor. Barry's specialties are breaststroke and IM and he earned 5 gold and 1 silver medals this weekend in the 50-54M group. Barry adds that after Lorie's instruction in the breaststroke and fly, he took 4 seconds off his best 100 Breaststroke time; 9 seconds off his 200 IM time and 15 seconds of his 400 IM time. Coaching does help!

George McVey Celebrates his 80th Birthday

June 27 was the offical 80th birthday for George McVey but his family celebrated it this past weekend at the 15th Annual Canandaigua Lake swim. Daughters Pam, Mary, Connie and Amy did the swim with him along with several grandchildren. Daughters Mimi and Karen and wife Sue were cheering from the sidelines. Below is an article written by Mark Hare which appeared in the D&C:

(July 26, 2007) — To mark his 80th birthday, George McVey did the annual Canandaigua Lake Open Water Swim on Saturday and finished first in his senior division. Four of his six daughters, and a few grandchildren, did the mile swim with him. It took about 30 minutes. Not bad.

Lake Placid Triathlon Team Results July 22, 2007

15th Annual Canandaigua Lake Open Water Swim Results

Eleven RAMS swimmers participated in the 1 and 2 mile open water swim at Canandaigua Lake on July 21: Diana, Kelsee, Betty, Dianne, Ken, Jim (and daughter Ann), Mark, Barry, Rich, Kay and George (with daughters Mary, Pam, Connie and Amy and son-in-law Hughes).

Thursday was distance day at SCY Nationals. Jim swam the 1650 Free and placed 4th with a time of 18:54.66 (4 seconds off his seed time).
